" However, inside "Bae Se Ju Ta", power stuggles quietly take turns in the life of the drama cast...

In 1999, famous author Hou Wen Yong unloaded the huge Taiwanese doctor's halo which is envied by everybody. With almost a year to finish, "Bae Se Ju Ta" has became a top 2005 best-seller that it was then adapted into a TV serial, pursued from all sides under a string of meticulous performances of the cast from Director Cai Yue Xun.



Now returning fresh from his directoral beau to Taiwan's No. 1 best selling idol drama "Meteor Garden", is Cai Yue Xun planning on how to bring up the local Taiwanese drama to a higher level Asian drama? This act reprimanded NT$ 80 million to support, lasting to 9 months of filming, including a 30-man team of cameramen, lightsmen, art and costume designers, propsmen, moviemaking technicians, screenplay writer, and other production staff, and gathering a cast line up of famous young and veteran stars from Hong Kong and Taiwan. What kind of an idol drama craze will it create? Director Cai and the cast and crew awaited nine months, of not being shown yet , and except for Korea, its overseas copyright sales has already swept away all Asian territories. Upon seeing the earlier raw scenes, Japanese NHK Network has already discussed the TV rights with Director Cai, hoping " Bae Se Ju Ta" to become the first Taiwanese TV drama to be shown at the NHK channel, as well as curve a niche and make an impact on the Asian drama circles. Also, its powerful drama charm is like a stored old volcanic lava , just urgently waiting to erupt...

Very fine commercial drama

Speaking on putting weight to the drama's commercial value and recieving the veiwers' ratings, has always been Director Cai Yue Xun's target. He stressed that he himself would not film a high-end type of artistic drama not appreciated by the masses. With regards to "Bae Se Ju Ta," the director said, " I wish it would be very easy to watch and its commercial value must also be very high." Breaking though from his former restricted directorial style, Director Cai has high expectations for "Bae Se Ju Ta." Inside the drama scenes, viewers will no longer see any shadow of Director Cai's previous directorial style, as it dissolved and changed into an intense directorial style. It is a first degree trial to taste a kind of several solidly written narrative styles, following the very fine cut to differenciate while letting the viewers experience a withdrawn picture of life inside the hospital.

Since Director Cai took charge of filming Bae Se Ju Ta, "Camera shots became complex yet simple!" Looking at his conflicting statements is similar to the way he talked on his drectorial breakthrough. Neither did he used a fixed "medical drama" atmosphere. It mainly lies on the human weak points and power struggle foreplay. Because of budget and tecnical limitations, Director Cai frankly said, " As far as the overseas TV rights success, we even studied how to walk in tip toes, and also watched at what they couldnt reach behind their backs."

Seeks perfection, close to severe searching

Director Cai had always grinded people with a rigid filming style. In Bai Se Ju Ta, while it may be said that it was not polite, the very first basic requirement is that the cast must follow the real medical steps. Before the shooting started, every cast recieved large amounts of medical services trainings, to reach a true-to-life medical treatment, and prevent being the laughing stock by knowledgable people . Bai Se Ju Ta cast was all required to evenly practice the medical services by heart, comprising surgical operations, surgical postures, hand-scrubbing, first aid and so on. Even Hou Wen Yong and other doctors gave a complete and long special trainings. In addition, in order to make all the scenes more fast-faced and very fine, Director Cai Yue Xun especially imported from Japan the tailor-made doctors clothes, caps, surgical gowns and gloves, surgical equipments and so on, to attempt in filming Taiwan's most beautiful group of doctors.

On the preparation of props and filming locations, Director Cai strictly required the need for an almost near-perfect degree. He actually seek his target that usually let his filming crew thoroughly injured their brains. "I felt really very bitter when I film a drama, which ordinary local TV stations is hard to accept" For Bai Se Ju Ta, Director Cai Yue Xun directed the drama crew to adopt by the "all-Asian drama" standards in preparing props and locations.



Is Director Cai actually a lot more strict? When the drama crew was prepararing the few props for the presidential suite room in the hospital, Director Cai strictly required that the intercom "must" have real electrical switch, which the former drama group was not able to borrow. He then invited an art productions group to make one. The same day, all cast arrived at the same time. But because the director was working with the props, all had to wait at the location site for the shooting to pack -up. Director Cai said, " When the a group of crew were irresponsible, I dont have enough patience to endure. " Director Cai thought that in Taiwan, all the drama crew need to undergo re-trainings.

Cai Yue Xun really feels extremely demanding. During the shooting, he met many problems in finding location sites. With the hospital location alone, Cai Yue Xun's wife Yu Xiao Hui ran to seek and paid visit all-over Taiwan to a lot of family-owned hospitals, commercial spaces, and even do-it-yourself pre-fabricated location vanues. In the process, Director Cai is thankful to Gao Xiong City where they have 3 lakes, Xin Dian and Gen Xin hospitals for help and support, especialy Zhang's Provincial Hospital which provided their surgical room free of charge and its surgical communication facilities used in the drama scenes. Also inside the institution, to the doctors and nurses who had not always charged fees for the medical trainings of the cast. Director Cai said, " We had tried many largely up-scaled hospitals and they had not agreed to lend us at all. Luckily, there are these people to help us, otherwise, Bae Se Ju Ta will just be impossible to finish.

Jerry's charm is so remarkable, that fans are now rushing to buy
their pre-booked tickets for "The Hospital" Preview Screening

Jerry Yan's charm is hard to resist, and with a $2,000 entrance ticket to the Charity Preview event, pre-booking unexpectedly sold out the 1164 seats in just two days. Also, a "Jerry fan" rushed in to buy 200 tickets, showing a solid financial strength that allowed other F4 fans hard to follow up. A friend of Jerry also pointed out that although he and LZL's relationship turned sour, he still carries his dog cage at his car, only coffee is no longer there.

"The Hospital" Charity Preview will be held on August 13. All entrance tickets requires to donate to the World Vision organization. Added to the special admission tickets are the "The Hospital" photobook and Tshirt, with a minimum value of NT$2,000 but on the opening of the ticket pre-selling, the 1164 alloted seats was immediately sold out in just two days. World Vision had already recieved NT$2,328,000, and with fans continously clamoring for more tickets.

Yang Ming Productions said that after the ticket pre-selling opened last July 20, phone inquires were continous, and in two days it has sold out its 1164 slots. and fans continued to call up protesting " Haven't bought a ticket yet!".

At present, they are thinking on adding half of the allocated seats later. Originally scheduled that on the same day of the Preview event, they will open the selling of the additional tickets, but this time they may probably open the ticket selling at an earlier date on August 5.

Jerry fans' consumption capacity is astonishing. For Japanese fans alone, there are already 250 people who will travel to Taiwan. Also touring Taiwan and to see the the Preview event are Korea, Hong Kong and Souteast Asian fans who will all troop to see their idol. A few days ago, Jerry just came from a concert in Indonesia. A friend discovered that a small dog cage was still in the back compartment of his car. The size is almost the same as the red puddle "Coffee" which he gave to LZL. It seemed that even if the feelings of the two had already died down, Jerry still cant just forget the person, that he even dont want to loose the dog cage.

August 15 is about a month away. That's when The Hospital will start broadcast in TW on weekdays, 8p.m. Its ratings will be closely watched by a lot of ppl as this time slot is a very fiercely competitive one, its the time slot where a lot of Tw soap operas are shown.

The Hospital was not chosen to broadcast on the much easier time slot of Saturday or Sunday nights [which its when idol dramas the likes of God Mars, Green Forest, Prince Turned To Frog, Love Magician, Silence, etc are shown & whereby its easy to get good ratings] as The Hospital is not an idol drama.

also plays around with them. This is how Lin Wen Kai, the cinematographer responsible
for all of Director Cai’s works since [Meteor Garden], described Jerry during the first stages of filming.

Moreover, we interviewed some actors who worked with Jerry for the first time.
First is Xiu Jie Xie, who acted in "Ming Yang Si Hai" and "Mars". He said: “Our ages
are very close, we chat together and talk about basketball. It was the same with ZZ,
we became familiar with each other very quickly.”

Lead actress Ms. Zhang said: “Before we met, I thought he must be a very handsome

Ms. Zhang has acted in movies, but has no experience in tv series yet.
Jerry then is very considerate and looks after her.

“After acting in a sad emotional scene and I’m unable to release the feeling,
and when my sentiments are low, Jerry always walks over to comfort me.

Lin Wen Kai’s deepest impression on him is: “When we were filming on the mountains,
even though we asked help from the local residents, the manpower is still not enough.
Jerry also went all out to help.”

It was on an early spring day when filming finished. The drama team specially arranged
a joint performance of the two main leads, Jerry and Dai Li Ren, as the last scene to
be filmed. When the final “cut” was called out, Director Cai and Jerry reportedly hugged
each other crying. On this matter, we asked confirmation from Director Cai.

“After filming the last scene, everyone opened up bottles of champagne that
they prepared. There was champagne everywhere, then we recalled our
continuous hardships, unconsciously we hugged together. Jerry and I were
drenched in champagne from head to feet.”

Not only being a doctor in the series, outside the series, Jerry Yan also manages to do good deeds. The station said they were very satisfied with the promotion of both Director Chai and his wife, putting up posters on the streets and public transportations plus the many inside interviews not related to the series, which also shows that their motive is to make structure of the series to be more immensed and ellaborated. The problem arises now with: 1. Where to get the funds and 2. How will they fit the fans in the venue.

Previously, they were planning to pilot an episode in a small venue, but yesterday they agreed to do the pilot at the World Trade Center wherein 1200 people can be accomodated. This includes press people from different countries and the fans as well. The highlight of this event is the auction, most especially Jerry Yan's The Hospital costumes and peripherals that even the staffs would like to join the bid!

The new Pepsi advertisement lacks F4

The day before yesterday the new Pepsi commercial was filmed with Jolin Tsai, Edison Chen, South Korean Rain etc and F4 was not included in the list of Big Stars it seems that they’re not the popular anymore. F4’s status is not the same three years ago. Mr. Chih said that sometimes not all the stars would be in one ad.
